BUILDING COMMITTEE REPORT
Construction has begun with the installation of a safety and security fence that surrounds the front of the Sanctuary and extends to cover the other construction areas. Demolition work has already begun thanks to the many hours of effort put in by Mount Olive Lutheran Church volunteers removing doors, windows, fixtures, and other materials from the Narthex, and bathrooms in the hope of recycling them for future uses. Installation of temporary sidewalks has been completed for easier access while construction is going on.
Intertech Construction crews will initially direct their efforts to the front of the Sanctuary and this is what will happen soon:
- Installation of a temporary floor-to-ceiling plywood safety barrier between the Narthex and the Sanctuary. The objective of the barrier is to protect the Sanctuary while construction is going on and also to protect our members as well.
- Demolition of the front entrance, narthex, and bathrooms.
- Enlarging of the Sanctuary, building a new Narthex, building a new Nursery, building new bathrooms and bringing them up to the latest handicapped codes, and building a new Coffee Café' and meeting room.
Very soon thereafter, construction efforts will also begin on the demolition and construction of a new choir room and improvements to the Sacristy area as well.
Unfortunately for all of us, the construction period will present some challenges that we will need to deal with. They include the inconveniences of entering through the side entrances, a divided parking lot, temporary restroom facilities, and probably some dust. But, the Building Committee and the Construction Company will do everything we can to expedite the construction work to minimize the time that the congregation will be inconvenienced. We suggest that we all remember that we are finally “Building the Vision” and remain positive and supportive. Thank you!
Blessings to all, Curt Schmaltz – Building Committee Chairman 04-20-12
